Constant Thickness Mattress - Technical Details

CT Matt, Section The concrete matt is formed by pump filling a sand: cement micro concrete into two layer Constant Thickness Mattress. The woven in spacer ties allow the thickness to be maintained over the surface of the entire matt.

Constant Thickness Mattress comes in a range of thickness', 80, 110, 150, 200, 220 & 350 mm thick. While not all of these thickness' are kept in stock at any one time, there is normally a matt in stock that can be used. If this is not the case then matt can be woven to order.

Suitability

CT Matts are suitable for the protection of long reaches (both above and below water) and for repairs in the vicinity of hydraulic structures(e.g. culverts, weirs and ship docking areas). These matts can help prevent erosion of river and canal bed and banks under heavy current attack (upto 5 m/s)

Mattress Construction

Mattress panels are sewn together to form larger matts with "Ball & Socket" type shear joints. Zips are sewn in place to connect the sides of adjacent matts, also with "Ball & Socket" detail.

Mattress is laid out in position by divers where underwater and the top of the sloping mattress is restrained. Pump filling generally commences from the bottom upwards. Matt fabric weighs 0.5 kg/m² enabling matts of around 50 -100 m² to be easily handled.

CT Matt, London, EnglandWhen matts are filled underwater a 4 man dive team can install around 200 - 300 m² of CT110 in a day, this amount drops to approximately half this value when the matt thickness' raises up to CT350.



Bed Preparation

A significant advantage with using mattress is that there is no need for accurate bed preparation, unlike many other revetment systems. This is because the matt will follow the profile of the bed. However it is important to secure the edges of the mattress well, particularly at the toe of banks.
